Description: In the Public Land Survey System (PLSS), a section is a 1-mile by 1-mile square, making up part of a township. Each township contains 36 sections arranged in a 6x6 grid.- Each section is 640 acres.- Sections are numbered 1 to 36, starting in the northeast corner of the township and snaking back and forth.- Sections can be subdivided into smaller parts, such as half-sections (320 acres), quarter-sections (160 acres), and even smaller divisions, to describe land ownership more precisely.
